MSLIA 2023 Annual Membership Meeting Minutes

  1. Meeting called to order 7:10 PM.
  2. Greg read minutes of 2022 meeting. Art Jalkanen motioned to approve, Bob Barbour 2nd. Minutes were approved.
  3. Presidents Report: Welcomed attendees. Led an ovation for Pete as outgoing President. Introduced board members. Westacres discussion of history and current status. Bay Pointe was sold to the Chaldean Catholic Diocese. They plan to build a church, keep a 9 hole golf course that will eventually become private and will be run by Shenandoah. Discussion on lake level and update on pump situation. Discussion on raising dues to be taken up under new business.
  4. Vice President Report: Have new merchandise including new hats at $30 ea and 1⁄4 zip pullovers for $60
  5. Treasurers Report: Went over Treasurer’s report. Suggestion was made to publish the names of everyone who has paid their dues.
  6. Secretary’s Report: Went over activity.
  7. Standing Committee and Association reports

    a. Social – Matt Barron recapped the winter party for everyone noting that Jeff Carroll took 2nd place in the chili cook-off. Fireworks will be on July 8th. No summer party date has been finalized, will notify via email when it is scheduled.
    b. Water Quality – Weeding is scheduled to take place the last week of July.
    c. Ecology/Biology – Al Proulx – Spring water samples were taken and frozen for submission later this month. Asked residents to not use any fertilizer near the lake, not even “lake safe” which really are not safe at all and promote weed and algal growth.
    d. Government Relations – Mike Caruso – Discussed the boat launch usage and the Memorandum of Understanding which MSLIA entered into with the township regarding our use for weeding and fireworks.
    e. Public Relations – Kara Dunn – Redesigned the website. Has been taking care of the Facebook page and has done lots of research regarding the boat docking issue.
    f. Lake safety – Bob Barbour – advised people to call the Sheriff if they unsafe boating. Also reminded that the use of a spotter is mandatory.
    g. Tripps Beach – had an underwater cable removed by AT&T which went across the lake. Will have a food truck this Tuesday 6/13
  8. New Business – Kathleen Jennens made a motion to begin process of Goose abatement, 2nd by Greg Andrick, Amended motion to delegate process to the board, 2nd by Art Jalkanen, amended motion carried. Dues increase discussion, motion made by Michael Stillman to increase to $150 per year, proportional increase for the golf course, 2nd by Greg Andrick, motion carried with 2 abstentions.
  9. Old Business – Greg Andrick motioned to adjourn, Art J seconded. Meeting adjourned 8:52 PM.
